Life Goes On After Divorce

Filed under: Loan Agreements — Admin @ 3:18 pm

Submitted by: James Wallis

Even if your loved one is not around anymore, you have to pick yourself up, dust yourself and move on, because nobody else can do it for you ultimately. In the following, we are going to look at some of the ways in which divorce affects our lives. There is no way to average this, of course, as the impact differs from person to person.

The Positive and the Negative

Like everything else that is of earth-shaking importance in our personal lives, divorce too has positive and negative impacts. And like everything else that is human, there are no solid black and white divisions here. A potentially harmful effect can give us the strength that we did not know we possessed and make us turn a new leaf. Similarly, what seemed to be great as a starter may soon grow to be a curse rather than a boon, bringing in more sorrows than it was supposed to eliminate. The factors cited below are, therefore, double-edged swords, and how we look upon them depends on our set of personal circumstances.

Loneliness and Lack of Intimacy

Being lonely and being alone are not the same. One may find solitude peaceful and like a balm, on the other hand, it can grow to a deafening silence at times. We all crave for the human warmth of another fellow creature beside us when we are physically or emotionally lonely. Many divorcees fear returning home at night as they see the long, dark, endlessly lonely nights stretching into the distance. One can be terribly lonely in a crowded pub surrounded by friends, or in a quiet room with no one around. Overcoming this gnawing emptiness is everyone s personal mission; support groups may be helpful up to an extent, but the mind has to be managed by ourselves. Pets, children or adopting children may also help. Work is also a good energiser.

Division of Income and Assets

According to a survey, divorce affects the average British citizen more thoroughly than disease or bereavement. The number of people who have applied for bankruptcy due to divorce has gone up too. The general problem that afflicts more than 60% of the divorcees is the management of heavy loans including quickly taken personal loans that can cause a lot of complications. The next great problem is that of housing. The asset whose division causes maximum problems is the residence. One spouse usually stays back in the house, while the other has to move out. The burgeoning property prices in the UK has prevented most divorcees from buying apartments of their own, resulting in a hike in the rentals in some areas in the prime cities. It is highly advisable that you plan the financial implications of divorce well in advance so that you are not left suddenly helpless and fending for yourself, and even worse, your children as well.

Single Parenthood and Custody

Children are very important to their parents and, sometimes, so important that they become the weapons in a battle between two grown-ups. Joint custody may be a solution, but is a bad idea if the parents continue bickering, using their children as spies, forcibly change their daily schedules to suit each household etc. Single custody with visitation rights is the hottest area of fighting in divorces, and once the decisions have been taken, it may be very difficult for the single parent to cope with the sudden burden of bringing up a child alone. Maintenance dues may not be cleared on time, and the Child Support Agency is not always successful in bringing the errant parent to book. Custody has its own heartaches as no parent can define what is enough time for having a healthy relation with one s own offspring. Children need both parents to have balanced minds, but do they have a choice?

New Relations and Affairs

There is no use in holding on to a tattered old relation after the divorce is over and done with. New relations and affairs can be heaven or hell, depending on the persons involved. But it is true that some amount of socialising is needed after divorce; otherwise one may slide into an easy bout of depression.

Personal Freedom

What is freedom? For some, it translates to evenings of partying, for some it means a better career, and for some, chances of brining up children better.

Jon Lujan named United States flag bearer for 2014 Winter Paralympics opening ceremony

Filed under: Uncategorized — Admin @ 4:30 pm

Thursday, March 6, 2014

Sochi, Russia — Yesterday, Jon Lujan of Littleton, Colorado was named the United States flag bearer for the 2014 Winter Paralympics opening ceremony scheduled to take place tomorrow in Sochi, Russia. Lujan is a United States Marine Corps veteran, and will be competing in the alpine events at this year’s Games.

In Sochi, Lujan is rooming with Heath Calhoun, the 2010 Winter Paralympics United States flag bearer. Like Lujan, Calhoun is also a veteran, having served in the army.

In 2003, while serving in Iraq, Lujan ruptured two discs in his back. Following a back surgery in 2005 that attempted to fix the discs, he had complications that resulted in permanent nerve damage and paralysis in his lower legs.

Also yesterday, wheelchair curler Sonja Gaudet was named the flag bearer of the Canadian delegation.

Earlier today, skier Millie Knight was selected as the flagbearer for Great Britain. At 15 years of age, Knight is the youngest member of Team GB.

U.S. tariffs on Chinese solar panels to be contested

Filed under: Uncategorized — Admin @ 4:21 pm

Saturday, October 3, 2009

The United States continues to implement new trade barriers; the most recent tariffs emerged on Wednesday, targeting solar panels imported from China.

The new tariff is a result of a query submitted in December 2008 by GES USA, an American solar company. The resultant inquiry sought to clarify tariffs levied on solar panels imported from China, imports which, for nearly two decades, were considered a duty-free commodity.

In early January, U.S. Customs officials reportedly informed the company that the solar panels contained electronic devices that place the panels in the electric generator import category which is subject to a 2.5% import tariff. Specifically, the ruling cited the presence of diodes on the solar panels as evidence of electric generation and hence they must be treated as an electric generator. Small solar panels already incur a 3.9% tariff. The January decision was made by a U.S. trade specialist whose rulings can be overturned.

The tariffs will be levied on imported panels that provide electricity for all uses. Additionally, tariffs will be collected dating from the beginning of 2009. The Solar Energy Industries Association estimates that the accumulated tariffs from this year may total more than US$ 70 million. This week’s tariff revelation caught many industry leaders off-guard and yesterday the Solar Industries Association moved to block the tariff. The Association president, Rhone Resch, stated “… We’re taking it [the tariff] very seriously and we will be responding. … The industry is in the process of preparing a challenge”. The Association intends to file their appeal with senior U.S. Customs officials who have the option to overrule the decision to implement the tariff. However, if the officials do not revoke the tariff, then the case must go before the U.S. Court of International Trade.

The U.S. amount spent on imported solar panels roughly matches the income from exported panels; US$ 605 million imported versus US$ 555 million exported, according to the Commerce Department figures on the first seven months of this year. Major solar panel importers have already begun to move their operations to the U.S.

Hare Krishna village in Kazakhstan – fears of further demolition

Filed under: Uncategorized — Admin @ 4:17 pm

Wednesday, November 29, 2006

A number of properties in a Hare Krishna village in Kazakhstan were demolished on November 21, by the local authorities, causing international outrage by religious freedom groups and Hindu associations alike. Since the attack fears are now rising within the community of further demolition to the remaining properties, including the main temple structure.

“The community is in shock, but they are determined to defend their homes and place of worship,” community member Govinda Swami told Forum 18 News Service. He says destruction of the temple would be “devastating”.

The authorities in Kazaksthan claim that the Hare Krishna devotees had no official right to their homes. However human rights activists Ninel Fokina and Andrei Grishin, state in reply that while 13 out of the 66 Hare Krishna homes were destroyed on court orders, “the adjacent houses of other people who do not belong to the Society for Krishna Consciousness were left untouched even though their title deeds have the same status”.

The Hare village itself, known as ‘Sri Vrindavan Dham commune’ (named after Vrindavan forest in India is based in the Keskelen district, in the town of Seleksia, close to Almaty. It was the only village of it’s type run by Hare Krishna devotees in the country.

According to human rights activist Yevgeni Zhovtis: “Unfortunately Kazakh law does not prohibit evictions during the winter period and also does not oblige the court bailiffs to give those being evicted a few days notice,” “All the same, there were crude violations of the law. The court bailiffs had the right to evict the residents of the houses but not to demolish the buildings themselves. It was also a very crude violation to throw the belongings of the Krishna devotees into the mud. The court bailiffs were obliged to put the devotees’ belongings into store.”

Local journalist Grishin claims to have had his camera confiscated by the Police and to have been threatened “If I see you here again, I will personally smash your eyes, even though I am the hakim.”

Protests are being made by Hindu groups and members of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness around the world in an attempt to halt any further demolition or other forms of alleged religious persecution. Groups within the UK have brought the issue to the attention of both Tony Blair, and the House of Commons.

One of the Indian political parties, Bharatiya Janata Party criticised the central government for keeping silence over the issue. The party is expected to follow the saffron brotherhood agenda in the second term of Rajnath Singh.

Thomas Cook occupiers arrested, released; company to return to negotiating table

Filed under: Uncategorized — Admin @ 3:58 pm

Tuesday, August 4, 2009

In what participants are terming a victory, all 28 of the occupiers arrested this morning at the Thomas Cook office in Grafton Street, Dublin, Ireland have been released with a minimal punishment and Thomas Cook management are returning to the negotiating table.

Employees had made plans to strike in order to obtain a larger redundancy package following the announcement of the closure of their store; when the company attempted to close the store earlier and without warning, in response the workers began an occupation.

Of the over 44 people occupying the office last night, 28 refused to leave and were arrested between 4am and 5am this morning in a pre-dawn raid by the Garda Síochána reported to have involved at least 80 officers. “It was quite scary” when the police broke through the office’s glass door, noted occupier Caroline Cullen, speaking to Wikinews. “We haven’t had any notice”, she recalls telling the officers. Occupiers had expected the police to arrive later at 11am.

Cullen reports that of the 28 arrested, 27 went immediately to jail where they spent about nine hours; the 28th, Avril Boyne, was nine months pregnant and entered labour as the police arrived. She was taken to hospital and delivered a healthy baby girl, Chelsea, just after 11am.

While in jail, Cullen says that the 27 “weren’t treated like criminals”. They were not handcuffed and were provided with good food. The meal consisted of a hot lunch of fish & chips, and chocolates for dessert. The Gardaí also gave the occupiers private toilet facilities.

In court, the arrests of the 27 for contempt of court were purged, on the condition that they each sign a document saying they would comply with the court order in the future.

The employees of the Thomas Cook office in Grafton Street will return to work as usual tomorrow, with negotiations about the size of the employees pension package resuming tomorrow morning between the employees and Thomas Cook management. The workers will be represented by TSSA general secretary Gerry Doherty. Cullen told Wikinews that the Thomas Cook workers were “absolutely delighted” with the situation and hope to have a final settlement with the company tomorrow.

The Thomas Cook employees were supported in their occupation by the community and an impromptu and growing coalition of left-wing political groups. Socialist Party Councillor Matt Waine and People Before Profit Councillor Richard Boyd Barrett were among the 28 arrested this morning; the Workers Solidarity Movement and Eirigí also supported the demonstrations from the beginning; Sinn Féin made an official declaration of support after this morning’s arrests; and two Labour Party (Ireland) TDs, not speaking officially for the party, criticised Thomas Cook management’s conduct in statements released after the occupiers were released.

Trade union Unite has declared solidarity with the TSSA and the Thomas Cook workers.

Speaking to Wikinews from Socialist Party headquarters, Matt Waine told Wikinews that he and his party consider the results of the Thomas Cook occupation “definitely not a loss. It’s a victory. The workers have laid down a very important marker for other workers that are in a similar situation.” Workers, though, must remain militant, he said: “we feel that this issue has thrown the gauntlet down as to what they [workers] can expect from the police, the state etc. if they take action…this doesn’t end here. I think the issue still remains of justice for the workers in terms of a decent redundancy package.”

Waine also took issue with the TSSA’s refusal to support the occupiers after last night’s court order ruled that the industrial action was an illegal occupation. While allowing that the TSSA’s response in court was made “under pressure”, Waine said that always complying with the law, as general secretary Doherty pledged the TSSA would do, is “not what the trade union should stand for. The rights of members should be paramount.”

Thomas Cook management was unavailable for comment.

England: Baby born with heart outside body operated on; surviving, three weeks after birth

Filed under: Uncategorized — Admin @ 3:54 pm

Friday, December 15, 2017

On Tuesday, parents of baby Vanellope Hope Wilkins and representatives of Glenfield Hospital in Leicester, England reported to the press that Vanellope has survived three weeks after being born with her heart outside her chest, a rare birth defect known as ectopia cordis. She has been operated on three times, initially less than an hour after her birth on November 22, and will need further surgery; doctors believe she is the first baby in the United Kingdom to survive being born with the condition.

Vanellope’s parents, Naomi Findlay and Dean Wilkins, live in Bulwell, Nottinghamshire; Vanellope is Naomi’s third child. They learnt about the defect from a prenatal scan, but opted not to terminate the pregnancy. She was delivered prematurely by caesarian section by 50 people including four teams, placed in a sterile plastic bag and operated on 50 minutes later for the first of three times so far. Frances Bu’Lock, a consultant paediatric cardiologist at Glenfield, noted that unlike some cases of ectopia cordis, she does not have any heart defect or other displaced organs; at nine weeks, part of her stomach also protruded, but by sixteen weeks, only her heart was affected. Dr. Bu’Lock had originally told her parents she had only a “remote” chance of surviving.

Ectopia cordis is very rare and reportedly occurs in fewer than eight of every million babies born alive. It usually leads to a stillbirth when the pregnancy is not terminated, and with the likelihood of other associated congenital defects, plus the risk of infection, Vanellope’s survival is very unusual. Dr. Martin Ward-Platt, a member of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, stated “we wouldn’t expect a case like this to happen in the UK more often than once every five to 10 years.”

Her mother said they called her Vanellope after a character in the Disney film Wreck-It Ralph because she was born with “a glitch”.

Manhood Irritation? Try Tantric Intimacy Instead}

Filed under: Yoga — Admin @ 3:34 pm

Submitted by: J Dugan

Many men will smile when they discuss manhood irritation. Why? Because quite often, a man got that irritated male organ after many long hours of intimate activity with an eager and enthusiastic partner. Even with the best male organ care, too much friction can mean the member gets red, sore and irritated after a great night.

But it doesnt have to be that way. In fact, a man can have marathon intimacy sessions that dont leave him with any manhood irritation at all but give him even more pleasure than he thought possible. Its called tantric intimacy. And theres a reason its been around for thousands of years.

What is tantric intimacy?

Tantric coupling, or tantra, is actually a form of deep meditation with a loving partner. It uses mindful sensuality and expands the definition of intimacy to include not just the body and mind, but the heart and soul as well. Tantric intimacy, when approached properly, can lead to some of the most amazing closeness a man has ever had.

Keep in mind that it can take many years to perfect tantra. This brief overview will help a man get into the idea of tantric coupling and decide if he wants to pursue it to the next level.

Tips for incorporating tantric intimacy

Yes, tantra does mean a slow down in the typical session. While a couple might normally be satisfied with a session that lasts thirty minutes or so, those who engage in tantra are just getting started at that point! Here are a few tips to keep in mind that will help a man move into longer, more leisurely sessions.

1.Lose track of time. Literally! Turn around the clock so the numbers are facing the wall, not the bed. Lose the watch. Plan the first session on a night will be followed by a leisurely morning with no obligations. The idea is to slow down dramatically and focus on every aspect of what is happening.

2.Cater to all senses. Tantric coupling isnt just about the body. Its about the whole of the experience. To get there, ensure that every part of the atmosphere is as sensual as possible. Invest in those amazing sheets that feel like heaven on the skin, bring delightful snacks into the bedroom (chocolate-covered strawberries are a great start) and use candles to light up the night.

3.Keep eye contact. Really connecting with a partner takes more than a few touches. Think about this surprising fact: Most couples dont look into each others eyes while in bed together. Change that by looking deep into her eyes while doing whatever it is that feels good.

4.Eliminate distractions. The buzzing of a phone is a true buzzkill. The light from the television overshadows the candles. Eliminate as many distractions as possible and focus on the five senses, one at a time, to get centered and focused.

5.Slow down. One aspect of tantric intimacy is the idea of worshipping a partner. Do this by slowing down everything in the bedroom. For instance, make strokes long and sensual instead of hurried. Dont just focus on the pleasure-inducing zones. This should be a full-body, immersive experience.

6.Keep the journey in mind. Many men have the goal of male release. Instead of that, focus on what it takes to get there. A long, drawn-out session can be what it takes to give both partners the ultimate pleasure, but no one will get there by keeping score or planning for what comes at the end.

Manhood irritation from too much intimacy can be alleviated with a great member health crme (health professionals recommend Man 1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin). But it is just as important to use that wonderful crme for issues that have nothing to do with irritation. For instance, a crme that includes vitamin A is helpful for keeping skin smooth and supple, while L-arginine can help with healthy circulation. Look for a soothing Shea butter and vitamin E combination to help keep a man even more prepared for a long session.

Iran’s morality police crack down on un-Islamic dress

Filed under: Uncategorized — Admin @ 3:23 pm

Wednesday, April 25, 2007

The Iranian police forces have faced criticism from Ayatollah Hashemi Shahrudi, the head of the judiciary who was appointed by Grand Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, for their re-invigorated campaign to do away with un-Islamic dress.

Ayatollah Shahroudi proclaimed, “Tough measures on social problems will backfire and have counter-productive effects.” Others have, of course, made it clear that un-Islamic dress can lead to moral corruption, engender innumerable vices, and hurt the Islamic character of the nation.

Some believe that no one had any issue with the creation of an Islamic atmosphere. The core of the matter revolves around the implementation of the Islamic dress code; additionally, heavy-handed measures should be shunned. For instance, Mehdi Ahmadi, information head of Tehran’s police, told Al Jazeera: “Some citizens may complain about the way the law is being enforced but they all agree with the plan itself.”

According to one student, “You simply can’t tell people what to wear. They don’t understand that use of force only brings hatred towards them, not love.” Nevertheless, Hojatoll-Islam Mostafa Pour-Mohammadi, Iran’s interior minister who is in charge of policing, prognosticated positive feedback from the populace when he said, “People are unhappy with the social and moral status of the society. They expect that the fight against social insecurity be properly implemented.” Thus, Hujjat al-Islam Pour-Mohammadi re-iterated the necessity of proper implementation and methodology towards the restoration of morality in the Islamic Republic. Islamic officials and religious people affirm that this is indispensable to promote righteousness, curb sin, and bring open sinners to justice.

Following the Islamic Revolution in 1979, hijab became mandatory in Iran for every woman including foreigners after over 98% of citizens voted for an Islamic government. Women may face caning up to 74 strokes for failing to observe hijab. In this recent crackdown, the authorities have arrested many citizens throughout the country. Not only have women been taken into custody for their hair being uncovered on their foreheads and tight clothes that show body shapes, For men they need to cover from knee to their waist as according to Sharia. Even a foreign journalist was detained because the photograph on her press card was indecent.

It has not been clear whence the directive for the re-newed clampdown emanated. Some have blamed Mahmoud Ahmadinejad while Gholam Hossein Elham, the government spokesman, stated to reporters, “The police work as agents of the judiciary to confront crimes. The government as an executive body does not interfere in the affairs of the judiciary.” The following pre-election speech seems to corroborate this latter statement:

In reality, is the problem of our people the shape of the hair of our children? Let our children arrange their hair any way they wish. It doesn’t concern me and you. Let you and me overhaul the basic problems of the nation. The government should fix the economy of the nation and improve its atmosphere…[It should] better psychological security and support the people. People have variegated tastes. As if now the arch obstacle of our nation is the arrangement of our kids’ hair and the government disallowing them <He chuckles>. Is this the government’s responsibility? Is this the people’s merit? In actuality, this is the denigration of our people. Why do you underestimate and belittle the people? It is the real issue of our nation that one of our daughters donned a certain dress? Is this the issue of our nation and the problem of our nation?

UK Serious Fraud Office to investigate MG Rover collapse

Filed under: Uncategorized — Admin @ 3:09 pm

Sunday, July 5, 2009

The United Kingdom’s Serious Fraud Office is to launch an investigation into the collapse of car manufacturer MG Rover. The move follows the conclusion of a four-year enquiry started immediately after the firm became insolvent.

The group of four who owned MG Rover — John Towers, Nick Stephenson, Peter Beale and John Edwards — have been accused of asset stripping. The quartet, known as the Phoenix Four, paid a symbolic £10 (approximately €15) for Rover in 2000. At that time the company received an interest-free loan from former owner BMW for £427 million (approximately €700 million) and came with a large amount of unsold stock.

Between then and Rover’s April 2005 bankruptcy, by which time there were unpaid debts of £1 billion (approximately €1.5 billion), the Phoenix Four had removed an estimated £40 million worth of assets including pensions and salaries. An enquiry was launched by ministers that was expected to take a year, but the final report was not delivered to business secretary Lord Mandelson until three weeks ago.

The government used taxpayer’s money to fund a £6 million loan to MG Rover and attempted to negotiate a deal with a Chinese company, but these efforts failed. MG Rover’s collapse caused the loss of an estimated 15,000 jobs, including with various suppliers. A former MG Rover factory does still build a small number of MG sports cars in Longbridge by Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation, who bought most of the designs.

The Phoenix Four released a statement criticising the criminal investigation. “There has never been any suggestion of improper conduct by the directors and this was confirmed in a report by the administrators PWC six months after they took over the running of the company. Four years on, any suggestion [of] another further investigation is frankly ridiculous and smacks of kicking this issue into the long grass. If the government has been so concerned to get to the heart of the matter why has it flatly refused more than 30 requests under the Freedom of Information Act which would have revealed correspondence and documents the directors believe would have shed some light on the government’s role in the affair?”
