Your wedding will be a public recognition, a celebration of all that you and your partner have come to mean to each other. It will be a day of love, a time in which you can share the fusion of your life with the person who you are happy to call your life partner. Object that fell through roof of New Jersey home not a meteorite

Saturday, May 12, 2007

An object that fell through the roof of a New Jersey home in January was not a meteorite, according to Jeremy Delaney, a geologist at Rutgers University. Instead, it appears the object was space junk or orbital debris.

“Basically, it’s a piece of stainless steel. There’s huge amounts of material that have been left by the various space programs of the world,” said Delaney.

The meteorite shaped object was not from a naturally occurring substance and had a silver like reflection. It weighed about the same as a small can of soup, 13 ounces (about 370 grams), but was no bigger than a golf ball.

Earlier during the incident, scientists from Rutgers examined the object visually along with police who were at the scene, and determined it was a meteorite. But further tests by geologists confirmed that it was not a meteorite, but probably a metal piece from a rocket or satellite. They had earlier thought it was made of iron.

“That’s the nature of science. If the conclusion from the test says it’s not a meteorite, then it’s not a meteorite. We have to move forward,” said Srinivasan Nageswaran, a member of the family that found the object.

Chinese chef Peng Chang-kuei’s death announced

Saturday, December 3, 2016

Peng Chang-kuei, a Chinese-born chef credited with creating the internationally popular dish General Tso’s chicken, was yesterday announced to have died by his son.

Chuck Peng told The Associated Press his father died of pneumonia in Taipei, Taiwan on Wednesday. The chef fled China to Taiwan in 1949 and invented the dish shortly thereafter. In the 1970s Peng opened a New York restaurant, which he claimed was a regular haunt of Henry Kissinger. Peng credited Kissinger with the dish’s popularity.

Peng conceived the famed dish, which is unknown in China, as unfried. Garlic and soy sauce provided flavour, as did chillies. Today the chicken is served across the US as fried chicken in a sweet, sticky sauce. The chillies remain, with broccoli also appearing. Peng named it after Zuo Zongtang from his native Hunan Province; Zongtang assisted in suppressing the 19th-century Taiping Rebellion.

Peng said the meal was invented for a US admiral visiting Taiwan. Over three days, Peng was contracted to produce several banquets, with not one repeated dish. After exhausting traditional chicken dishes Peng said he created what became General Tso’s chicken as an experiment.

In later years he ran Peng’s, a chain of Taiwanese restaurants. General Tso’s chicken also remained popular across the US. His son claimed he remained working in the kitchen until a few months before his death, at 97. In a documentary two years ago, shown photos of General Tso’s chicken served in the US in modern times, he remarked “This is all crazy nonsense.”

Running away from his farming family in Changsha, Peng trained under Cao Jingchen. He fled communist rule that followed the 1930s Japanese invasion. He fathered seven children, six of whom remain alive, from three marriages. Chuck Peng described his father as “very good to other people, [but] very hard on his family.” Peng Jr. spoke of a “very demanding” man who “thought other people’s cooking was no good.”

Two years ago the Taipei City Government awarded Peng an Outstanding Citizen award. Peng, then 95 and unstable, collected the award in person and delivered a speech in Mandarin Chinese.

Add Some Bling To Your Outfit}

Add some bling to your outfit

by

Brigette FedericoSparkle is at the height of fashion and if you scour any pages of fashion magazines then glitz and glamour is all you will see. If somebody had said that sequins would be seen out in the real world as opposed to just on Strictly Come Dancing then we would not have believed them, but the evidence is out there and bling is really back. The danger with adding sparkle and bling to an outfit is that if it is not done right then it can look a bit trashy. The secret is to choose one or two key pieces of clothing or jewellery and then team this with something a little more understated. Also, ensure you select your sparkle colour and stick to it. Silver or gold are a good base for sparkle colour, but do not mix the two elements otherwise the look could be ruined. If you are a daring lady then a one piece sequinned dress can give a killer look. Choosing one focal item means that the look is dramatic but hideous. It is a good idea to choose plain shoes and a handbag to go with this to hold back a little and ensure your look is not over the top.Another way to pull off a sparkly look is by doing the complete opposite of this and choosing a very plain, block colour outfit and adding a couple of pieces of glitter. There are some fantastic glitter shoes and bags on the market now which can dress up an outfit, but are more suited to someone who is not so flamboyant.Key pieces of jewellery can really finish a look off and by choosing quality diamond jewellery the look you achieve will be really classy. At Rox we offer sparkling diamond jewellery which adds a beautiful finishing look to any glitzy outfit.
